After a lifetime of drinking coffee, I have been introduced to chai. “Introduced?! It’s been around forever.” Clarity, I have known of its existence, and tried it before. Lots. Every time it was this cloyingly sweet or hyper spicy weird beverage that WASN’T coffee. It just never did it for me. But I have seen the light. Wait a minute…this IS Cafealejandro RIGHT!? Yes yes, and coffee is indeed what I like to daily replace my blood with, but my fiance has recently introduced me to a chai, that is not only tolerable, but actually delicious.

What the WHAT!?!? Yes, delicious. But with extreme specificity. As I said, I’ve tried it before, big box brands, local brands, and they were always this terrible flavor profile that was gag-worthy. If you are familiar with chai, you understand the varying differences in brands I’m talking about here. But then I had a sip of hers…

Woof! What did I just have!? Silky, tasty, sweet, but not overly; spicy, but not like chugging a bowl of potpourri. I am incredulous. Whatta taste sensation. Did it just get hot in here? Who cranked the heat? Nope, that’s the warming sensation of chai when done right. Will I be double-fisting a coffee and a chai this winter? Yeah, prolly. I feel like I am being infidelitous to my primary beverage of choice, but you know what?

It is OK to enjoy something else. It is ok to like chai as long as you get the right one. This is imperative. Otherwise you will be in the same boat I was for all coffee-ternity!
